About Kathryn Kirby

Hey there! I'm Kathryn Kirby, the creator of EntryLevelTVJobs.com, and your guide to breaking into the buzz of TV and radio news. Stoked you're here!

So, here's the real talk: Scooping up that first full-time TV gig was no sprint; it was a marathon with a twisty track. Picture this: 16-year-old me, already dreaming in breaking news and live shots. I was all in for dishing the latest scoop to the world. But, oh boy, did I have a lot to learn beyond the college textbooks.

Post-grad life hit me with a big "What's next?" Sure, I was that go-getter in college — newspaper Editor, PR whiz, voice on the airwaves, and even jetted off to Nairobi for a major UN Women's Conference. Leadership awards? Got 'em. But how to wrap that up with a bow and sell it to news directors? That was the million-dollar question.

Plot twist: I jumped into radio news before I ever saw a TV studio from the inside. My demo tape was... let's just say, it was a starting point. But you know what? Experience has to start somewhere. Radio was my boot camp, and it prepped me for the TV news battleground.

Switching to TV was like leveling up in the most epic game, but let me spill the tea: Rejection emails were my daily, unwanted breakfast. Did I let that stop me? Heck no. Those "no's" only fueled my fire. Fast forward through all the grind, and bam — I'm at WVIT-NBC-30, living my anchor/reporter dream and dropping success tips at UMass Amherst.

It took nine whole years after getting that journalism diploma to land where I wanted. And it wasn't just the grind that did it — it was something else, something I'd been working on all along. Dive into my eBook to uncover that secret sauce.

As a reporter, it's been wild — folks let me into their lives, shared their highs and lows, and trusted me to tell it straight. That's golden. And let's be real, some people weren't thrilled to see a mic in their face, but that was the exception, not the rule.

Every story, every connection, taught me how we're all part of this crazy tapestry of life, in all our diverse glory. If you're here for the thrill of broadcast news, get ready for an adventure that's anything but average.

Now, the baton's in your hands. Armed with a journalism degree and hungry for that big break? Let's cut through the noise. With 15 years on the frontlines of radio and TV news, I've gathered a treasure trove of tips and lessons just for you.

Stay tuned,

Kathryn Kirby
